Envisions

We had a really great day at Platte County Envision!  There were some pretty heavy topics discussed, so please make sure to ask your 7th or 8th grader what they learned about it and be open to discussing that with them.  One of the biggest things I noticed while watching the kids’ faces was that they had no idea how much information could be learned from posting pictures on social media.  Key things for them (and you!) to know:

  • Once a photo is posted online or through a text, it’s out there forever.  There’s no getting it back.

  • Make sure your social media accounts are set to PRIVATE!

  • You should know every single person you allow onto your social media “friends” lists.  If you don’t know them in person, they shouldn’t be able to see your pages.

  • Posting pictures on your social media accounts is risky.  People can find out the latitude and longitude of where the picture was taken, and posted from!  More reason for having your account set to private - you do not want creepers showing up at your doorstep.

  • Parents - check your child’s phone and social media accounts often.  You aren’t invading their privacy, you are keeping them safe.
