Look Out Washington, D.C. Here Comes WMS!
On Monday, April 15th, 13 students from the Wheatland Middle School traveled to the University of Wyoming in Laramie to compete in the State History Day competition. This year's theme was Triumph and Tragedy and our students showcased their ability to triumph! Mrs. MaryJo Birt prepared her partcipants for this competition and their preparation paid off. WMS was the winningest school there and it was great to hear their names called numerous times during the awards ceremony. Here is a list of the projects and awards.
Camryn M and Hunter S: 1st place in Junior Group Website, "Small Steps, the Triumph and Tragedy of Birmingham
Children's March 1963"; Gerald and Jessie F. Chambers Award
Jayden M, Jacey M, and Hadley P: 1st place in Junior Group Performance, "Not in His Shadow, but By His Side: the Triumph and Tragedy of My Husband's Presidency"; Allan K Simpson Institute for Western Politics and Leadership Award
Eleni M and Traylea F: 1st place in Junior Group Documentary, "Stand Firm for the Women, Wyoming's Trimpuh in the Nation's Tragedy"; Florence Sommers Jensen History Award
Karely G: 2nd place Junior Individual Performance, "I Could Have Done More, Irena Sendler's Trimpuh in the Tragedy of Hitler's Final Solution"; DAR History
Tagg M and Cole G: 3rd Place Junior Group Documentary, "Mooving In, the Triumph and Tragedy of the Cattle Boom"; Fred and Flossie Graves Homestead Award; Alternate for Nationals
Raegan E, Megan C, and Lily N: 3rd Place Junior Group Performance, "Queen of the Sea, Triumphant Birth, Tragic Death"; Alternate for Nationals
Thank you, Mrs. Birt, parents, and supporters for preparing our students for this challenge. They will represent WMS well at the national level this summer.
National History Day: Washington, DC June 9-14, 2019
Students will be partaking in various fundraisers in the meantime. If you have some odd jobs or work that needs to be completed and would like to hire these students, please contact Wheatland Middle School and schedule with Mrs. Birt.
